Amazon To Enter India As Junglee.Com

Indications has emerged that internet shop giant amazon.com will be launched soon in India as junglee.com. It was gathered from a reliable source that arrangement has been concluded for the official launch. The company is expected to launch a market place in partnership with many giant Indian e-commerce ventures to feature their products on the Amazon India website. According to them, retailers will have to provide XML based feeds of their products to Amazon, customized to Amazon’s categorization, and on completion of the sale, they will be responsible for delivery. Each retailer will be reviewed and rated by customers.
Junglee is a word in hindi meaning wild and it’s a domain name that Amazon has held on to for a while: the company had acquired Junglee in 1998 for around $230 million (according to BusinessGyan); it was a database product, which, at the front end, had two applications – a job aggregator and a comparison shopping engine
What’s interesting here is that Amazon is going to manage the payments, and take a commission that could be around 2% to 7%, but could be higher for apparels. Amazon will manage the front end, and it is likely that there will be no cash on delivery option. However, Amazon is in talks to acquire a logistics company for efficient delivery of products when purchased. Another interesting facts is that Amazon may hire around 3300 people in Hyderabad, and invest around Rs 500 crore (around $100 million at current rates) over three years.
